What I'm Watching | September 2024

The summer is over & September is filled with amazing TV shows that I’m going to enjoy for next 4 weeks.

My wife & I are enjoying this great HBO series, and lamenting that there’s only 2 seasons. More period dramas with costumes, please.

The first episode of City of God was more of catch-up to the aftermath of the original movie, so I’m waiting for this series to hit its stride sooner than later.

In its 4th season, Only Murders in the Building became a comfort food as the biggest hook is no longer whodunit, but the camaraderie between the cast. Season 3 setting on Broadway was refreshing, so I hope the Hollywood adventure in this season is more than excuses to have many guest stars.

Pachinko Season 2 continues its storyline as if the season 1 wasn’t launched (& lauded) 2 years ago. Sunja/Minha Kim is Pachinko, and Pachinko is Sunja/Minha Kim. She deserves all the praise & the accolades coming to her.

As an editor who worked on K-Pop idol documentaries, I’m watching K-Pop Idols out of professional curiosities. I only know Jessie among the cast, and I can’t help wonder if any other will break out or stand out from this series.

What I'm Watching | August 2024

I rarely get goosebumps from watching a trailer, but Pachinko season 2 trailer is simply marvelous. It just breaks my brain that this TV series exist (& I would’ve done anything to be a part of the post team to work on it, but alas)

Omnivore looks amazing, combining great cuisines with international flavors.

This flew under my radar, but Those About to Die has been the latest guilty pleasure on the big TV in my household. We may move on to Rome (on HBO) next month after we’ve finished its 10 episodes.

The season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was interesting enough to get me excited for season 2. Let’s hope that this is the season where it finally delivers on its expansive (& expensive) promises.

City of God is one of my favorite movies, and I’m pleasantly surprised that it’s made into a TV series. I’ll get to relive the time I spent in Brazil before the Olympic in Rio (even if it was the safest time for tourists, so I’m told)

What I'm Watching | July 2024

Yes, I signed up Amazon Prime to watch Fallout. (And take advantage of Prime Day in July, Ha!)

If you are a fan of RoboCop, you NEED to watch this amazing documentary series. Not only all the principals involved share lores & anecdotes, it’s a mini film school with invaluable lessons from making this brilliant sci-fi movie.

I’m amazed how well Squid Game is made and still grips me even though I’m aware of all its twists and turns as I rewatch each episode. I can’t wait to see season 2 that will debut later this year.

What I'm Watching | May 2024

The ladies of Hacks are back and I’m so happy that the reviews have been glowing like this trailer.

Speaking of reviews, the reviews & the word-of-mouth for X-Men ‘97 have pushed me to check out the latest incarnation, even though I’ve missed out the original back in the days.

Slow Horses is another series that’s getting praises from my circles of social media.

Everyone should check out Apple TV+ regularly for incredible shows that people seemed to miss out, beyond Ted Lasso.
